Terms of Service
These terms are an agreement between you and InnerWarden LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17153868) ("InnerWarden", "we"). They cover the website innerwarden.com, the customer account at /account, and a paid subscription to Active Defence. Last updated October 19, 2026.
The free Community edition (the inner-warden repository) is open source under Apache-2.0, and that licence, not these terms, governs your use of its code. Active Defence is proprietary software and is not open source: these terms are its licence.
1. Who can subscribe
Active Defence is sold for business use. By subscribing you confirm that you are acting for a business, and that you may accept these terms on its behalf. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms limits the rights the law gives you.
2. The subscription and billing
- A subscription is priced per agent, as shown on the pricing page when you buy, either billed annually or billed monthly. Payments are taken by our payment provider, Stripe. Prices do not include any taxes that apply to you.
- A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price then in force, until you cancel it. We will tell you by email before a price change applies to your next renewal.
- You can cancel at any time from your account (Manage billing), which opens Stripe's customer portal. A cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and your licence keeps working until then.
- Fees already paid are not refunded, including for a period you cancel part way through, except where the law requires a refund.
- If a payment fails, Stripe retries it. If it still fails, the subscription can be cancelled and the licence stops renewing.
3. The licence
While your subscription is active, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and run Active Defence on the machines your subscription covers, for your own business. The software is licensed, not sold. Your licence file is signed by us, covers the period you have paid for plus seven days, and is renewed each time a payment goes through; you can download it from your account. Where we make Active Defence's source code available for you to read, that gives you no right beyond these terms.
You must not:
- share, sell or sublicense the software or your licence file;
- remove or work around the licence checks;
- use it to provide a service to third parties without our written agreement.
4. What the product does, and does not do
Active Defence screens what AI agents try to run and, on supported Linux hosts once armed, enforces limits in the kernel. On macOS and Windows it monitors and screens. It is a layer of defence, not a guarantee that no attack succeeds, not a replacement for an EDR, and not a compliance certificate. You remain responsible for your systems, your agents and your backups.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use the product, the website or the public challenge to attack systems you are not authorised to test, to break the law, or to interfere with our services or other customers.
6. Your data
The data Active Defence collects about your machines stays on your machines; it does not reach us. What the website and your account collect, and your rights over it, are set out in the Privacy Policy.
7. Warranty and liability
The software is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. Our total liability to you under or in connection with these terms is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the event that gave rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data or business. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
8. Suspension and termination
We can suspend or end a subscription if you breach these terms in a serious way, with notice where we reasonably can. When a subscription ends, the licence stops renewing and you must stop using Active Defence.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For a change that affects a paid subscription we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email, and the change applies from your next renewal. The date at the top shows the current version.
10. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. Questions: contact@innerwarden.com.
